The European Heritage Days are an opportunity to (re) discover a city and its cultural riches. On 17 and 18 September 2016, the Chambéry Tourist Office is mobilizing to share with you the heritage treasures of the historic capital of Savoy.
Grand Ball at the Castle of the Dukes of Savoy
To celebrate the 600th anniversary of the creation of the Duchy of Savoy, the city of Chambéry organizes a ball in the castle. Children and adults are invited to the castle on September 16, at 6 pm or 8 pm, to try the dances of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance in the company of dancers and musicians.
The public will be able to access on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 September various exhibitions organized in the castle, in particular:
- The Castle, Savoy, 10 centuries of history
- The Medaillier de Savoie

Discovery of Sainte-Chapelle
Sainte-Chapelle de Chambéry is a magnificent Gothic building with a Baroque facade. For the European Heritage Days, the chapel can be freely visited between 10am and 5.30pm.
Exhibitions are also organized in the Sainte-Chapelle: Sancta Capella and Contemporary furniture of the Sainte-Chapelle . The opportunity to revisit the history and architecture of the building, as well as the installation of new furniture created in 2012.
Music lovers will also enjoy an organ concert after attending the presentation of the instrument by an organist, Christine Devouassoux.
Visits through the city
The city of Chambéry is also many treasures to discover over the walks. The tourist office organizes various guided tours to trace the cultural, heritage and architectural history of Chambery. Among the proposed visits we can mention the following:
- Rue de Boigne: This street where shops, restaurants and hotels coexist in the center of Chambéry bears witness to the action of a famous Chambérien, General-Count de Boigne.
- The Revolution in Chambéry: guided tour tracing the history and the course of the revolutionaries.
- Protect our heritage: visit of the safeguarded sector with the heritage animator and the architect of the buildings of France.
